Unique Giving Opportunities

Since 2009, global stock markets have increased significantly.  Such a run-up in investment values has provided interested donors with two unique giving opportunities. 

First, Congress recently extended the law which allows donors age 70½ and older to transfer up to $100,000 of their IRA to a qualified charity, like Deaf Missions.  Since this opportunity is only available this year, eligible donors have until December 31 to transfer funds directly from their IRA to Deaf Missions.  

And second, donors who have taxable accounts may elect to donate any appreciated stock or other marketable securities they have to Deaf Missions before they sell it.  Doing so makes the donor eligible for a tax deduction at the current market value, while avoiding the capital gains tax on the sale.
